Kids.gov is an outstanding site for resources in all sorts of subjects.
CNN Student News A great site for keeping kids educated about current events.
Fact Monster – A COPPA compliant site with lots of great resources for research. Does have some pop-ups.
InfoPlease – This is a great site that offers free research in the form of an Almanac, Atlas, Dictionary, and an Encyclopedia.

Kid-Safe Browsers
Ask Jeeves for Kids - A natural language search engine that is filtered. By natural language, you can enter in questions like "why is the sky blue." Try it now!
Yahooligans! - A database of about 20,000 sites that are kid safe. You can search or select from a directory 
One Key - A closed search engine that requires web sites to meet an editorial policy. Also access to Google's kids search engine.
Education World - A database of 56,000 sites
Kids Click! - Put together by librarians for kids, the database, as of July, 1998, contained about 2600 records. Well organized and easy to use, though not as thorough as the others.

Ask Oxford - A great site offered by Oxford Dictionaries

Merriam-Webster Online – Online dictionary from Merriam-Webster.  They also offer a Thesaurus.
A Maths Dictionary for Kids – A neat site with a great way for helping kids with Math.
Word Central Merriam-Webster’s kid’s dictionary.
Little Explorers – English Picture Dictionary – A picture dictionary for younger kids.

Encyclozine – A great site offering encyclopedia services among other things.
InfoPlease Encyclopedia – Link to InfoPlease’s online encyclopedia.
